Open Letter to the Hon. P.C. Larry Bagnell

Open Letter to the Hon. P.C. Larry Bagnell

Member of Parliament for Yukon

Dear Mr. Bagnell,

These past weeks have raised many concerning questions regarding:

  • the Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould’s surprise resignation as Minister of Veterans Affairs;
  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s motives for shuffling her out of her former position as Attorney General;
  • the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Gerald Butts’ role and subsequent resignation in the wake of this controversy, and;
  • how these events pertain to the unfolding scandal surrounding allegations of interference in the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin.

On behalf of many concerned Yukoners, I urge you and your Liberal caucus colleagues to support the New Democratic Party motion calling on the Prime Minister to waive solicitor-client privilege for Ms. Wilson-Raybould, which would allow her speak freely and unfettered, as well as launch a public inquiry into the SNC-Lavalin matter.

Canadians are demanding the truth and that can only come from the first-hand accounts of those directly involved. As such, Mr. Butts must also be given the public opportunity to explain to Canadians how he, on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office, conducted himself throughout this affair.

Yukoners, and all Canadians, expect and deserve accountability and transparency from their government, and want to know where their Member of Parliament stands on these important matters.

Thank you for your consideration of these questions and concerns.

Sincerely,

Jonas J. Smith

Conservative Party of Canada Candidate for Yukon
